Sydney Howard

Sydney Howard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Albert Bridge, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Active 1940’s – late 20th century.

Sydney Howard began carving in the 1940’s. He carved animals. fish, birds and people. Always in paint and later in his career he signed his work. He carved life-sized figures, often of politicians and R.C.M.P officers for his yard.  Sydney Howard was in the first Lunenburg Folk Festival in 1988.

Ross W. Gould. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Duntroon, Ontario. Active 1960’s -.

Ross Gould carved and painted naive sculptures. A work of his is cited in “From the Heart” (Pl. 225); and he is also mentioned in the Canadian Centre for Folk Culture Studies.

William Goosney

William Goosney. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Birchey Head, Newfoundland. Active 1970’s- .

William Goosney was known for his Yard Art; especially his model of a lighthouse. He is cited in Grattan  1983.

Ernest Goodwin

Ernest L. Goodwin. Sculptor. Decoy carver. Baie Verte, New Brunswick. Active 20th century.

Ernest Goodwin was a decoy carver. He was also known for his painted ornamental carvings of birds.
