William McLelland. Sculptor. Port Grenville, Nova Scotia.  Active mid 20th century.

Bill McLelland was a naive sculptor.  He made carvings of people (nudes occasionally), Model Ships and birds. He often worked with ‘as found’ materials and colors.  He usually signed “Bill McLellend or William McLelland, Port Hawkesbury, N.S.

Roger Bourgault

Roger-Andre Bourgault. Sculptor. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. Active mid to late 20th century.

Roger-Andre Bourgault, was the son of Andre Bourgault; one of the three original brothers. A fine sculptor in his own right; his characters often seem to come alive, especially his faces which were always taken from life. Originally trained in his father’s and uncle’s (Jean-Julien) studio; he went on to study art in Montreal at The Institute of Applied Arts. He was also known for his carvings in stone and his works in Bronze. he typically signed his wood carvings ‘Roger Bourgault”.

A. H.  Sculptor. Wood carver. Montreal, Quebec. (Exact location unknown.) Active mid 20th century.

The initials ‘A. H.’ are occasionally found on painted ‘bas relief” carvings often found in Montreal, Quebec and the area.  Signed: A. H.  and sometimes dated (’45 is an example).

There is a signed carving of a Duck by Antonio Matteo in the collection of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. it is dated in the 1990’s.
