Robert Tremblay

A naive carver of animals and people, always in paint. Usually signed on the base with date. He also made carvings of situations around the farm and fields often with teams of horses. An example is shown here.

Xavier Dion

Born: Active mid 20th century.

Xavier Dion. Sculptor. Wood carver. Saint-Raphael-de-Bellechasse, Quebec.  Active mid 20th century.

Make of primitive painted wood carvings, especially birds.

Examples of his work have been collected by the Musee Quebecois de Culture Populaire at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.

 

 

Wilf Bent

Seen: A pair of carved naive Oxen heads in full paint and mounted on a shaped panel. Signed and dated 1981.

John Sharpe

Born: Active mid to late 20th century.

John Sharpe. Sculptor. Wood carver. Newfoundland. Active mid to late 20th century.

John Sharpe made  quite elaborate carvings of scenes showing life in the out-ports of Newfoundland. From fisherman at work to their houses and yards. he used ‘as found’ materials and color. All of his carvings were fully painted and very detailed. (His dates and location are still uncertain.)

Freeman Reynolds

Born: Active early to mid 20th century.

Freeman Reynolds. Sculptor. Model ship builder. Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island. Active early 2oth century.

Seen: A signed and dated ‘1924’ model of a three masted Schooner.
