Jacqueline Tremblay

Jacqueline Tremblay (nee Bouchard). Painter. Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. Collage Artist. Active late 20th Century.

A niece of the family of Bouchard painters and sculptors, Jacqueline Tremblay uses mixed media and makes painted collages using eggshells.

Rosario Gauthier

Born: 1914  |  Died: 1994

Rosario Gauthier. Sculptor. Saint-Charles-le-Bourget, Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Active mid 20th century.

A true primitive artist, Rosario Gauthier used ‘as found’ materials and color in his carvings. He carved Birds and animals and people and he is collected in Museums and private collections; a large body of his work is in The  Musee du Civilization a Quebec.

Alphonse Emond

Born: 1902  |  Died: 1966

Alphonse Emond. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Decoy maker. Verdun, Quebec.  Active 1930’s

Alphonse Emond was a decoy carver and he was also know for his ornamental bird carvings.

Arrmand Julien

Born: 1910

Armand Julien. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Pont-Rouge, Portneuf, Quebec. Active mid-20th Century.

Beginning in the 1960’s, Armand Julien made delightful painted carvings of farm animals and horses; alone or in teams at work on the farm. He usually, but not always, painted his work and signed them; with a chisel or in script; sometimes ‘Arm. Julien’ or simply ‘A. J.’ He made every kind of farm animal and occasionally farm equipment and models of buildings. Armand Julien was cited in The Canadian Antiques and Art Review.*

Shown below is a fine carving of a Sleigh and a couple of passengers; pulled by a brown Mare. Tin, Pine, String and paint. C. 1960.
