C. L. Brewin made painted carvings of animals, often in situations. He signed and dated his work and usually numbered them.

Jim Tracy

Jim Tracy. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Falmouth, Nova Scotia. Active late 20th century – .

Jim Tracy is a sculptor who works with ‘as found’ materials. He makes naive carvings of people, fish and animals with great imagination and colour. He is a regular participant in the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival.

James Jamieson

James Jamieson. Sculptor. Painter. Woodcarver. Middleport, Ontario. Active 1960’s – .

James Jamieson a naive painter and carver of birds and animals as well as relief carved wall plaques.

Walter Humphries

Walter Humphries. Painter. Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Active mid 1970’s – .

Walter Humphries, originally from Ontario, settled in Yellow Knife where he makes pictures using a variety of media including pen and ink, watercolours, oil and acrylics. His pictures are naive and portray daily life in the Northwest Territories. He writes a weekly column and has prospected as well.

John Hummel

Born: 1892  |  Died: 1970

John Hummel. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Maryhill, Ontario. Active mid 20th century.

John Hummel made painted carvings of animals and birds. He was known for his carvings of bird trees. He was collected and shown in the Canadian Museum of Civilization show ‘This Other Eden’. (A link to the Museum site is given below.) John Hummel is also cited in “A Splendid Harvest” 1981.*
