Leo Naugler

Born: 1956

Leo Naugler. Camperdown, Nova Scotia. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Painter. Active 1980’s – .

Leo Naugler was encouraged to begin carving by his neighbor Eddie Mandaggio. He was the creator of the Helicopter featured on television and also was in the film “Folk Art Found Me”.  Leo, like more than a few Canadian folk artists (Quebec’s Leo Fournier comes to mind as well), had a body shop and was a welder. A skill he often used in his sculptures, turning scrap tools and car parts into works of art. He is collected in Canadian Meuseums including The Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. When he turned to painting he made some of the finest Maritime works.
