Barry Colpitts. Sculptor. East Ship Harbour, Nova Scotia. Active 1980’s-.
Barry Colpitts’ works are a unique vision in Nova Scotia and Canadian folk art. His impressions are startling and quite wonderful. All of his work seems to ask questions and then smile or laugh at the answers. What can we say about his black-haired bathing beauty with her birds?
He has been collected by the Nova Scotia Art Bank and is in the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. He has received government grants to work on pieces of his choosing.
He is a flat-plane carver and his pallet is the brightest possible maritime primary colors. He is collected internationally and people travel a very long way to sit by him and see his work.
