R. Richard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli,Quebec. Active 1940’s.
R. Richard was a flat-plane woodcarver working in the St-Jean-Port-Joli region of Quebec. This artist was active in the 1930’s and 1940’s. A number of carved and painted figures have been found signed R. Richard in script on the base. I have anecdotal evidence that the ‘R’. stands for Rene. Richard seems to have stopped carving by 1950.
