Berthier Beauregard

Berthier Beauregard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Saint-jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. Active mid 20th century.

Berthier Beauregard made wood carvings in the flat-plane tradition of saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. He learned carving in the studio of Gerard Fortin and later took over his studio. Beauregard’s son Mathieu now owns and maintains it and works as a cabinet maker.  Berthier Beauregard’s work was sometimes coloured, especially early in his career. His subject range was wide; he carved people, birds and animals. His work was signed with a chisel usually on the side of the base. Some examples of the range of this woodcarver are shown.
