Leandre Dube. Woodcarver. Sculptor. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. Active mid 20th century.

Leandre Dube made figural carvings in the flat-plane tradition of St-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. His carvings were of people in the traditional costume and scenes of Quebec. He always painted his work and signed on top of the base of the carving in the Bourgault style – in ink or chisel. His carvings are of a smaller size and are rarely found. They date from the 1930’s – early 1940’s.*

*Leandre Dube was one of several Quebec flat-plane woodcarvers whose carving careers seemed to have stopped sometime in the 1940’s or in a few cases the very early 1950’s. (The second world war may have been a factor for some.)
