Annette Guay works with wood and stone making models of Christmas creches. Always beautifully coloured and signed. She shows her work around the Province of Quebec.

Marius Blais

Born: 1968

Marius Blais. Sculptor. Pointe-aux-Outardes, Quebec. Active since 2016.

Marius Blais works with ‘as found’ materials in particular, but not limited to, metal; including spoons and other cutlery. He makes objects, animals, birds and other forms of wildlife turning everyday disposable things into objects of beauty and interest. He appears at shows and expositions in Quebec including the Saint-Ulric, Quebec, Festival of Folk Art Sculpture. Marius Blais artistic boundaries are limitless as is his imagination. His work is an exceptional example of ‘l’Art Trouve’.

Gerard Guillemette

Born: 1932

Gerard Guillemette. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. Active 1999 – .

Gerard Guillemette makes painted carvings of a variety of subjects. He works with Basswood and signs his work.

Berthe Simard

Born: 1916

Berthe Simard. Painter. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Petite-Riviere-Saint-Francois, Charlevoix, Quebec. Active mid 20th century.

In the 1930’s Berthe Simard and her sister Marie-Anne were encouraged by Jori Smith and Jean Palardy to develop their talents and become artists. Berthe Simard was a painter  and also made painted wood carvings. Her colours were more subtle than her sister Marie-Anne’s but equally strong. Her subjects were the country-side and the sea.

Like Marie-Anne, her sister, she was among the Charlevoix artists featured in the book on Charlevoix painters: Peindre un Pays Where her story is told. She was also in the film: Paintres folklorique de Charlevoix,  ( ‘Folk Painters of Charlevoix’ ) made by Jean Palardy.

Daniel Pouliot

Daniel Pouliot. Sculptor. Woodcarver. St-Michel-de-Bellechasse, Quebec.  Active late 20th century – .

Daniel Pouliot is known for his very fine impressionist wood carvings using ‘as found materials. They are beautifully painted in ‘as found’ colours, and usually signed with his initials and the date.
