Marius Jensen made carvings of farm scenes. They were always brightly coloured and multi-dimensional. His subjects were every aspect of farm life and the people who worked with them and lived on the farm. He often included children and sometimes made paintings of farm and forest scenes with animals, birds and other figures carved and applied to the painting.  These can be quite spectacular. His work was always well painted and signed on the base; sometimes with the date.

Tom McFadden. Sculptor. Wood carver. Hillsburgh, Ontairio.  Active late 20th century.

Tom McFadden’s mark is seen on a painted carving of a man wearing Jeans. It stands about 4 feet high and is signed and dated on the base.

Ross Uttley. Sculptor. Wood carver. London, Ontario. Active mid-20th century.

Ross Uttley was a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was also a bird carver. His birds were painted by his wife, Jay. He signed his carvings on the base with ‘London, Canada’. An example is shown here of a shore bird and his mark.

Oliver Sonley.  Sculptor. Wood carver. London, Ontario. Active mid 20th century.

Oliver Sonley. The mark on a well carved and painted sculpture of a woman; possibly ‘Snow White’ from the Disney movie made at that time. It is signed on the base: ‘Sonley’ with a chisel and is undated but was made about 1950′. Our information is that the artist was a policeman from London, Ontario who also made wood carvings. Very fine ones and well coloured.

Jamie Fortier. Known for a signed painting of a Main Street business in Prescott, Ontario. It is signed ‘Jamie’ In the lower right with a provenance written on the reverse. (1980)
