Murray Gallant makes painted carvings of the human condition. From ladies in polka dotted dresses to naked man playing the fiddle he sees what he thinks and then he carves it. He has been active from the early 1980’s and was showing at the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival when it first began. Murray Gallant is widely collected – from The Beaverbrooke Gallery – to private collections across North America.

Bradford Naugler

Born: 1948

Bradford Naugler. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Painter. Camperdown, Nova Scotia. Active 1980’s – .

Bradford has been carving naive impressions of people and animals since the 1980’s. He was one of the first artists in the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival in 1988. His works are wildly and brightly painted and always signed. he is one of four Naugler artists from the same family near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He appeared with his brothers Ransford and Leo in the 1993 film “Folk Art Found Me”.

Mary Martin paints naive pictures. Her paintings are playful and always bright and colorful. She will paint a ‘play on words’ or even a ‘figure of speech’ and they are always delightful. She has re-located to New Brunswick.

Ron Margeson makes painted carvings in the round. He usually carves people at work in Nova Scotia but he will do other subjects as well.

Doug Dorkin

Doug Dorkin. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Chester, Nova Scotia.  Active 2000 – .

Doug Dorkin is a flat-plane relief carver. He makes carvings of people – famous people and neighbors. His carvings tell a story. He has been featured at the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival.
