Carmel Talbot

Born: 1919

Carmel Talbot. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Thetford-Mines, Quebec. Active mid to late 20th century. Carmel Talbot made naive carvings of people, animals, birds and fish. Simetimes painted and sometimes varnished. He usually signed; in script or with a stamp.

Normand Simard

Born: 1945

Normand Simard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Baie-Saint-Paul, Les Eboulements, Quebec. Active late 20th century- .

Normand Simard makes sculptures using ‘as found’ materials. He has a studio/gallery at Les Eboulements where he works and displays. His subjects are people, ducks, and birds-wild and domestic. He also uses stone and ‘found’ driftwood to make other works of imagination including models of the houses found along that St. Lawrence shore. He signs his work in script.

Bertrand Saint-Pierre

Born: 1933

Bertrand Saint-Pierre. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Saint-Aime-des-Lacs, Quebec. Active mid to late 20th century.

Bertrand Saint-Pierre made naive carvings of people and animals. He used primary colours and worked in Pine. Bertrand Saint-Pierre’s work was charming – he didn’t hesitate to pain a horse bright red. His work is not often found. M. Saint-Pierre sold  in local markets and along the highway in Charlevoix County. His work was usually signed.

Jack Walker

Born: 1957

Jack Walker. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Bolton-Ouest, Quebec. Active late 20th century.

Jack Walker is mentioned in Levasseur’s second book of Quebec outsider artists with a picture of a weather-vane in the form of a very ‘toothy’ fish. It is in the author’s collection.

Laureat Valliere

Born: 1888  |  Died: 1973

Laureat Valliere. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Painter. Saint-Romuald, Quebec. Active first half of the 20th century.

Laureat Valliere was amulti talented artist. He trained when he was very young at the studio of Ferdinand Villeneuve who taught ornamental religious carving. Laureat Valiere opened a studio/gallery in Quebec City in the late 1940’s and also specialized in religious carvings, working in stone and wood. Valiere also carved in the vernacular, people and animals animals; usually stained and varnished. He worked in Basswood, Pine and Oak woods.
