Robert Michaud

Robert Michaud. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Cap-Saint-Ignace, Quebec. Active 1960’s.

Robert Michaud made carvings of Birds and people for sale along the Gaspe shore. He used a paper label with the words “Fait-a-la-Main – Hand made – Cap-Saint-Ignace, Quebec”. He used forest-found wood and fungus for mounting his birds. An example is shown.

Clarence Bouffard

Born: 1950

Clarence Bouffard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Petite Matane, Quebec. Active late 20th century – .

Clarence Bouffard has filled his yard – and a fair bit of the village of Petite Matane – with his sculptures of animals, both imaginary and real; and often a mix of the two. His carvings are over sized and made of ‘as found’ materials – tree parts from the forest and driftwood from the sea. From giant people to Minotaurs  his imagination provides and everything in colour.**

**Clarence Bouffard often shows at the annual Festival de Sculpture d’Art Populaire de St-Ulric, Quebec.

Amelie Bouchard

Born: 2003

Amelie Bouchard. Sculptor, Woodcarver. Baie-Saint-Paul, Charlevoix, Quebec. Active 2011 – .

Amelie Bouchard is perhaps the youngest folk artist/outsider artist on this directory. She is earning her standing in the ranks. She is the daughter of Antoine Bouchard and great-granddaughter of Joseph-Achile Bouchard.   And she is a bird carver and is already participating at folk art festivals in Quebec, among others, the Festival of Quebec Folk Art at Quebec City in the spring of 2018.* Amelie Bouchard carves birds out of her imagination and loads them with colour and form.

 

Jeanne d’Arc Audet

Born: 1937

Jeanne d’Arc Audet. Painter. Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec. Active from her childhood till now.

Jeanne d’Arc Audet was a naive painter. Her subjects were : “The ‘art of memory, or remembering.” They were found in the traditions of every-day Quebec life and customs. Using whatever materials available, from wax crayons to newspaper she painted the world around her. (She tells of trading fresh eggs for crayons with the local grocer.)

Victor Dallaire

Born: 1942

Victor Dallaire. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Saguenay, Quebec. Active 1960’s – .

Cictor Dallaire is a flat-plane woodcarver.  He apprenticed at Jean-Julien Bourgault’s School in 1959 at the age of sixteen where he learned the art that he would excel in.
