Stanley Boyd

Born: Active 1930's.

Stanley Boyd. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Morin Heights, Quebec. Active 1930’s.

Stanley Boyd made flat-plane carvings of  Quebec figures in the Saint-Jean-Port-Joli tradition. He often signed his work ‘S. Boyd, Morin Heights’ in pencil with no date. The bases were applied with small nails in the manner of C.J.Trygg and my understanding is that he learned to carve from Carl-Johan Trygg in St. Sauveur, Quebec. Signed examples are shown below.

Stanley Boyd also made painted relief carvings of Laurentian scenes – usually in winter time.

Cecile B. Toussaint

Born: Active 1930's - .

Cecile B. Toussaint. Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec. Active 1930’s.

A carving of a book mark signed Cecile B. Toussaint and marked ‘Tadoussac’.

I believe that the ‘B’ in her mark is for ‘Bourgault’ and that she was a niece of the three brothers working in the studio of Andre Bourgault.  Signed works are occasionally found by her. (The ‘Tadoussac’ on the carving would identifie it as a Souvenir of that place rather than a place of origin.)

Born: Active 1930's

A. Hebert. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Quebec. Active 1930’s -?

The mark ‘A. Hebert’ is seen in the lower left corner of a painted relief carving of a winter scene dating from the 1930’s. This relief carving is similar to another work listed here in this data base which I recorded a few years ago in a Quebec collection. It was clearly marked “Honore Hebert, Montreal, Canada, with a date in the 1930’s. So a bit of a mystery, for now. This one by ‘A. Hebert’ is shown below.
