Gaston Bernier

Gaston Bernier. Sculptor. Wood carver. Montmagny, Quebec. Active mid to late 20th century.

Gaston Bernier was a bird carver. He has carved every kind of bird seen in Quebec. Often flat-plane carved, they are always beautifully coloured and well mounted on pieces of ‘as found’ wood from the forest or the Gulf. His work is usually signed: ‘G. Bernier and often with the date.

Roland Beaudet.

Roland Beaudet. Sculptor. Painter. Wood carver. Leclercville, Quebec. Active mid 20th century.

Roland Beaudet started carving and painting after retiring. His work included every kind of subject from farm life to wild life as well as boats and ships. His work showed both humourous  and classical themes, often mixing the two. Sometimes his carvings were coloured but often they were not. He has been collected by The Museum of Civilization in Quebec.

Rene Bergeron

Born: 1939

Rene Bergeron. Sculptor. Wood carver. Baie-Comeau, Quebec. Active late 20th century.

Rene Bergeron, originally from the Saguenay region, uses ‘as found material (pieces and shapes of wood from the forest) to make his carvings. Most often birds of the region that he assembles and finishes. His work is not often found: ‘he gives more than he sells’ is a quote. His work is charming and evocative.

Arthur Bernier

Arthur Bernier. Sculptor. Wood carver. Cloridorme, Gaspe, Quebec. Active mid to late 20th century.

Arthur Bernier was one of three generations of Bernier folk artists from the Cloridorm area of Gaspe, Quebec.

Emilien Bernier

Emilien Bernier. Sculptor. Wood carver. Cloridorme, Gaspe, Quebec. Active late 20th century.

Emilien Bernier was from a family of Gaspe folk artists spanning three generations. He made models of the boats that were seen on the Gaspe shores as well as carvings of Birds and people. His work was seen at the Folk Art Festival at Saint-Ulric.
