Joseph Huard. Sculptor. Woodcarver. L’Anse-aux-Gascons, Quebec. Active mid 20th Century.
Joseph Huard made models of the fishing and cargo boats that sailed and worked up and down the St.-Lawrence and Gaspe shores. Joseph Huard’s model boats are found painted and unpainted and in different sizes – some up to three feet long and with fishing and sailing gear. His carvings were rarely signed.*
A picture of Joseph Huard with his family and model ships is shown below (1942):**
*As many as three generations of the Huard family were known to have made these model boats – from table top sizes to one three and four feet long; complete with fishing and sailing gear.
