Jean-Marc Poirier. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. Active mid 1990’s – .

Jean-Marc Poirier was born on les Iles-de-la-Madeleine. He moved to Cape-Breton Island around 1990 to fish lobster and cod. It was there in Cheticamp, Cape-Breton that he began making sculptures in wood and opened a studio/gallery. He made animals and birds and people. His colour palette was bright Maritime primary colours. Jean-Marc Poirier’s inspiration was the sea and the land and he often used ‘as found’ driftwood in his work. He signed his carving ‘J. M. Poirier’ always on the base in script. He stopped carving aoround 2010 and moved back to his native Iles-de-la-Madeleine.
