Euclide Deschene was a ship’s captain for the Canada Steamship Line’s run between Montreal and Chicoutimi. In his spare time in the 1960’s and full time after his retirement in the 1970’s he made woodcarvings; carving animals in the round and in relief carvings as well as people at work and playing – from musicians to fishermen. He also made decorated furniture. His work was usually stained or left natural. His initials: ‘E.D.’ were his usual mark.
