Ed Minville

Ed Minville. Sculptor. Woodcarver. Quebec, (Montreal?). Active 1930’s-1940’s.

Ed Minville was a flat-plane woodcarver. He was active in the late 1930’s and ’40’s making painted carvings of Quebec people – usually couples – in traditional costumes and occupations. His carvings were generally smaller, in the 4 to 6 inch range, and very well made and coloured. He usually signed his work in script on the bottom of the base and often with ‘Quebec’ and the date. Examples are shown below.*

  • Ed Minville was one of several Quebec flat-plane woodcarvers whose carving careers seemed to have stopped sometime in the 1940’s or in a few cases the very early 1950’s. (The second world war may have been a factor for some.)
