Adelia Dufour-Belanger

Born: 1918

Adelia Dufour-Belanger. Fabric artist. Rug hooker. Saint-Gabriel, Cte Rimouski. Active 1930’s – .

Adelia Dufour-Belanger began hooking rugs as a teenager in the 1930’s. She hooked with rags on jute and usually did her own designs. She made “tapis a langue de chat” (cat’s tongue) as well as rugs decorated with figures and rondells. All bordered and embroidered and multi-coloured. Much of her work and designs were inspired by her grandmother who taught her the traditional fabric arts.
